Too bad we can’t discover the bastard gene and test for it at birth. Send everyone who has it to a desert island when they turn 18, unless nurture overcomes nature. Then let them Lords of the Flys themselves to extinction and turn it into a tv miniseries.
No, but we should leave them with a few books: The Art of War, the Anarchist’s Handbook, the Communist Manifesto, das Kapital, Mein Kampf, Mao’s Little Red Book, Ghaddafi’s Little Green Book, the Prince, and KimJong Grandpa’s world’s largest porn collection. If they can’t discover their destinies within that body of literature, the dna test might need fine tuning.
Or maybe a book on flower arranging, Wabi-Sabi, a farewell to arms, Trout Fishing in America, Leaves of Grass, The Sound and the Fury, Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass… just to confound them?
It can't be done on a totalitarian and whole population scale that Russia/China/North Korea have tried. then there's Israel. They set up kibbutzim, bringing holocaust survivors, etc. to land in and learn Hebrew while working to produce their own food and build the infrastructure. No one is forced by threat of death to join a kibbutz. And until the country's economy collapsed and they changed the lira to a shekel, the kibbutzim were thriving. In fact, they got caught in the collapsing web after taking out business loans with the failing bank system to invest in their growth. OOOPS! Inside of a capitalist environment for the most part, though, a kibbutz works well. In America, it would threaten industrial ags and factories and be vilified as the communist creeping viral horror. But of course, investment banks have this need to kill the goose with the golden eggs.
In the US, the Amish find ways to thrive in what are a kind of county size kibbutz. They reduce their dependence on outside big ag, big Green, big Energy, and a bunch of other bigs.
I read a story that illustrates the Amish way of thinking. Four Amish men were bidding on a 640 acre farm owned by a commercial farmer. They intended to divide it into 4 160 acre farms. A local ag reporter asked one of the Amish buyers what made him think he could make a successful 160 acre farm where the previous owner wasn’t able to succeed with a 640 acre operation.
The Amish man thought for a moment and finally replied,” I’m doing okay on 40 acres now, and my sons are older, so I think we’ll be okay.”
I can't imagine what a Ford dully could handle as far as the number of apples in its bed. I also live in Georgia, but it is in the United States. Keep on keeping on.
We used to transport a small llama in a roomy and mostly empty minivan. Pales in comparison with the horses and apples of your story, but we do have the photos to prove it happened.
At the risk of being too political: Here are some other things in recent memory that have been done for the “greater good” with horrific results (and gifts that keep on giving).
-> Global Climate Change Policies
—> Green Energy (solar, wind), Weather Engineering in all its incarnations
-> Covid Countermeasures
—> Mass Vaccinations, Lockdowns, Business Shutdowns, Church Closures / Property Confiscation, Social Distancing, Quarantines, Censorship, No Early Treatments Allowed, Hospital “Protocols”, Medical Board sham trials, and so much more
-> Censorship of so-called Misinformation, Disinformation, Malinformation (which often turns out to be true)
-> Unchecked Illegal Migration
-> Forever Wars
All these have injured, killed, and impoverished millions, perhaps billions.
We must open our eyes, speak out, and NOT comply when anyone tells us that something is for the “Greater Good.” Always ask “Who benefits?” Chances are, it isn’t YOU!
It might be. Almost all the cars in Azerbaijan were Zhigulis, Nivas, Volga’s, and those Oka death pop cans. Some oligarchs in Baku bought the last several years of Zhiguli production and stored them in the open air at a vast railroad marshaling yard in Baku.
I tried to identify differences between older Ladas and Moskvitch cars from rear photos, but it’s difficult. Both look basically the same, although the later Moskvitch models had a yellow turn signal triangle above the taillight. Maybe they were the export models.
And you are correct. The car in the photo is a Moskvitch, because I just noticed the orange turn signal light. Good catch.
We probably chunked all the little Rusky cars that size into the Zhiguli pile.
They were all simple to repair, because heaven knows, they needed it. We often saw the cars propped on their sides with a couple of plastic buckets upon which the rain gutter rested and a wooden post that braced them from falling back onto their tires.
Brilliant as usual - all authoritarians feel obligated to kill “for the good of the country”, don’t they
All the ones I know about.
Consistent bastards aren’t they?

I endorse this. Should we teach them to swim though?

Bingo! Do what you need to do and appreciate what you have. Love that story.
We're all collateral damage
Sobering, Switter.
I'm pretty sure that wasn't what Marx had in mind. He simply underestimated one important factor called Homo Sapiens.
Great idea. Wrong species?
