Did we learn anything, besides how to be better killers?

We owe so much to them! Hopefully we let the surviving heroes know our gratitude.

They were heroes but would never admit to it, which is what made them heroes.

Those young men, some of whom were black, were not privileged. They were America's cannon fodder. The privileged white men you speak of here were at home, enjoying their privilege over opulent dinners with jeweled debutants, attending elite colleges to learn how to subjugate other white men. These were the privileged father's of our leaders today who call such young men "loser" and "suckers." And all to make their father's love them.

I called them that ironically, because it seems all men these days are thought of as possessing unearned privilege. Unironically, the actually privileged men, the woke ones you described, are the ones who wouldn’t have the courage to do what those young men did.

Sorry I failed to see the irony. But true, the Woke are making a of us testy enough to miss a lot of good points.

I read the comments on one of those weird "What Would You.." articles today. The publisher asked "What one thing would you like to get rid of in the world?"

War, wrote many. Others suggested we get rid of greed. Politicians were probably third in line for most votes. A few wrote Israel, liberals, or Democrats, which made me cringe. One wrote Hamas. Two suggested we get rid of people.

We are a stubborn species who seem unable to understand how our own mindsets create the dysfunctions we most fear.

Those who give their all to make the world a better place are rare and noble souls.

We weren’t there to learn so much as teach. I know my dad and uncles would be willing to some back from the dead to stop Hitler.

You are absolutely correct; our fathers were there to teach and they did, but for many of them, it was not a choice they made without a devotion to what they loved most back home. It’s why they were the good guys, because they did not like or choose to kindle the evils of war. They were there to snuff out those evils.
