Somehow I forgot to post the following on Veterans Day, but it’s a post about gratitude for the women and men who served and serve to preserve the freedoms we cherish, including the freedom to express ourselves here on Substack, so maybe it’s appropriate to post it on the week before Thanksgiving Day.
My father served in the Korean War. My old guy served in the Korean War. My wife’s grandfather left his wife and four children to serve in Europe shortly after D-Day. Each served willingly, but each sacrificed. I can’t imagine leaving behind five family members on a farm in Missouri to serve in France, but I have read the letters home. The spirit of sacrifice includes those who must stay behind and wait for their loved ones.
"We who have seen war, will never stop seeing it” - We Were Soldiers
“Only the dead have seen the end of war.” -Plato
Until we become wise enough and good enough to stop making war, we will honor those who serve to protect us and preserve our freedoms. We thank you.
Beautiful homage, Switter. Thank you.🙏🏻💙🌺
Plato nailed it all those centuries ago. We don't seem to learn, do we? Even after the incredible sacrifices.
I too, am grateful for each and every person who has made that choice. Thankful for the reminder, Switter. J
